I give American a hard time. At the same time, I still fly American every time I fly. While it’s true the AAdvantage program has suffered some setbacks, I still have Executive Platinum status with American and am about to requalify through January 31, 2018. I’ve held some form of status with American since 2009, which I know isn’t as long as some of you but still gives me at least a bit of expertise.

Well today is the day. The amount of redeemable miles you earn on a flight no longer has any correlation to the distance of the flight or the class in which you fly. It’s now all about the money. I’ve made my thoughts on the matter pretty clear in a previous post and won’t rehash the gory details here. But let’s talk about a change American needs to make.

American Airlines announced today (well, yesterday for me because I happen to be in Japan at the moment) some more Super Happy Fun changes to their AAdvantage program. It’s not just that they’re bad, but American executives continue to lie to investors and consumers by using words like “innovation” or “innovative” or “good” when describing these changes. They are literally copying and pasting what Delta and United have done. That is not innovation, that is laziness.
