American Express has set a new standard with their Centurion Lounge concept.  They currently have 12 of these premium lounges in the US and Hong Kong and, having visited many of them, I can vouch that they’re a refreshing take on the staid, typical airline lounge.

(next time I’m in Hong Kong I’ll visit the Centurion Lounge there, since I won’t be able to visit The Pier anymore)

Today American Express announced two new additions to the Centurion Lounge network: London Heathrow and Charlotte Douglas!  This post will be focused on London, with more information about Charlotte to follow.

London Heathrow Centurion Lounge

The new Centurion Lounge will be in Terminal 3 (from where many US airlines depart) post-security.  At 7000 square feet it will be a bit on the smaller side but with space at a premium in Heathrow I think it’s still a competitive size.

The press release from American Express described it as follows:

Opening in 2019, the new Centurion Lounge at Heathrow will be located post-security in Terminal 3 and span 7,000 square feet.  In addition to the amenities found across other Centurion Lounge locations – such as premium showers and private noise-buffering work stations – the Centurion Lounge at Heathrow Airport will feature specially curated amenities influenced by London’s distinctive food, drinks, and design

Pop-up Lounge in Covent Garden

American Express is celebrating the new Centurion Lounge with a pop-up Centurion Lounge at Covent Garden (Unit 6, Langley Street) from 13-16 December, 1100-1800 each day.  Platinum and Centurion cardholders can access the Lounge and bring up to two guests.

(on that note, I won’t be able to get over to London to review the Lounge so if any readers can swing by and take some pics for me to feature I’d appreciate it, let me know at andystravelblog@gmail.com)

American Express describes the pop-up as follows:

A sophisticated sanctuary from the holiday hustle and bustle, the pop-up Centurion Lounge will offer complimentary bites and beverages, gift wrapping services, charging stations and family programming.  Platinum Card and Centurion Members are welcome to attend with up to two complimentary guests. More information about The Centurion Lounge pop up at Covent Garden can be found here

Exciting times ahead for London and the Centurion Lounge network!
