American Airlines has certainly had their growing pains since becoming the world’s largest airline.  There’s one area, however, where they are absolutely dominating their competition: airport lounges.  American Airlines is renovating and adding Admirals Clubs at a feverish pace and their premium Flagship Lounges are well deserving of the Flagship name (in my opinion).  From a tasteful and impressive design standard to great amenities like Flagship First Dining, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed visiting the existing Flagship lounges on my travels.

It’s time for the DFW Flagship Lounge

American closed the existing Admirals Club at DFW’s terminal D (from where most international traffic departs DFW) last year to create a Flagship Lounge at their home airport.  In its place was a temporary Premium Lounge, which was, well, temporary, thank goodness.

The wait is now over: the DFW Flagship Lounge (and accompanying Admirals Club) will open May 16, 2019.

Who will be able to get in?

Access will be similar to the existing Flagship Lounges:

  • First and Business Class passengers on qualifying international itineraries (domestic First Class will not get you in, unless you’re connecting onward that day to a qualifying international flight)
  • American Airlines Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum status holders on qualifying international itineraries, regardless cabin of travel
  • Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald members on international itineraries
  • ConciergeKey status holders

What will it look like?

Well you’ll probably get a good indicator of it by checking out the reviews of the existing lounges at the beginning of this article.  The design language will be similar and I expect it to have a make-your-own cocktail station, showers, hot food, and wine/champagne stations.  Since American flies the 777-300ER out of DFW, Flagship First Dining will be available as well, for passengers traveling in First Class on 3-class international flights.  (Chicago doesn’t have Flagship First Dining since there are no 777-300ER flights, the only remaining jets which have international First Class for American)
