This is one of my favorite pictures that I’ve ever taken! I was so happy to get it just in the nick of time before the haze rolled in.
My friend Amanda and I were in Hong Kong last weekend and I made her sit there patiently while I took all my pictures. This included getting up at 5am and taking a taxi up to Hong Kong’s Victoria Peak for this shot. It’s a long exposure shot that captures motion in the harbour while letting in just a hint of the pink morning light.
So, here it is, Sunrise over Hong Kong.
For the photographers: This was f11, ISO 100, and a 15 second shutter. I rented a 16-35mm lens for the trip and got my money’s worth out of it 🙂
Man, you got lucky with the clouds. Every time I’m in Hong Kong it’s too cloudy and lots of haze.
So lucky. Haze rolled in like 10 minutes later
Absolutely gorgeous, one of my favorite shots of HK (or any cityscape for that matter).
Damn, that’s a great picture! Well done.
Beautiful picture! I wasn’t lucky enough to snap anything that good when I was in HK.
That is a stunning picture.
I am planning to visit HK in May and hope to get something close to this 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
I was there this morning but was totally misty and foggy and no sunrise 🙁
I’m sorry the weather didn’t cooperate, I’ve had the same thing happen to me a few times.
Hi Andy, this is amazing! I’m thinking of doing this on 1 Jan watching the first sunrise of 2017. Do you think it’s worth it? Please kindly be troubled to share your location. Is it the The Peak where Madam Trussauds is? Thanks a lot 🙂
Hi Andy, this is amazing! I am thinking of doing this on 1 Jan to watch the first sunset of 2017! Do you mind sharing the exact location where you took this picture? Do I get up to the Peak where the mall and museums are? Thanks so much!
Hi Sharon, yes, you can take the Peak Tram to the Peak. Once you exit the tram mall turn to the right (west) and look for a little road called Lugard Road, keep walking for about 1.5km and you’ll be at the spot!
