A few months ago I posted some guidelines for finding cheap airfares. One of the key points I made (#4 in that article) was to check competing hubs. In what’s known as a “fare attack”, “fare war”, “faremageddon”, “slap your fares in the face”, and/or “I’m all up in your fares, stealing your customers”, an airline will throw the bird at another airline and undercut their prices. The attacked airline will typically turn around and do the same thing.
There’s a perfect example going on right now, courtesy of our friends at TheFlightDeal.com: cheap fares to Central America from American hubs (on United) and similarly cheap fares to Central America from United hubs (on American). Book quickly, these are legitimately fantastic fares (especially to Belize)!
Thanks for the heads up, been looking to go to Costa Rica. Unfortunately, I may be too late to this party but I can’t seem to find more than 1 seat from any of the hubs that are reasonable for me to get to. When I search for 2 seats or more, price jumps considerably no matter the dates or hubs I choose.
