Delta is releasing new Tumi amenity kits starting July 1st in their Delta One (their branding for business class) and new “sleep kits” in Comfort+ classes. Delta is unique among domestic airlines in that they use brand-name amenity kits, which I personally think adds a really nice touch. Tumi is a premium brand and no doubt Delta adds some positive brand equity from the name association.
There are two Tumi kits, with the only difference being that one is a hard-shell and the other is soft. They’ll be alternated based on direction of travel, so if you’re flying Delta One on a transcontinental round trip you’ll receive one of each. The contents will be the same regardless.
When I read about the new kits I reached out to some contacts at Delta to see if they could shoot me an example of each kit so I could do a review for my readers. They arrived yesterday and I immediately began a photoshoot. And then I decided to give both of them away to my beloved readers (see the bottom of the post for details).
The Kits
The packaging is definitely premium. Both kits feel high-quality and relatively durable.
The products inside
Delta’s providing a variety of items inside, from MALIN+GOETZ skin products and mouth wash to a really nice soft-touch Tumi pen. The pen is a really nice touch, I frequently forget to bring a pen along on my flights and am surprised how often I wish I had one in my bag.
The whole package
I think overall I actually prefer the soft-side kit, I feel like I’d be much more likely to re-use that one than the hard-side kit. Either way, I think Delta’s new kits are a nice refresh that have a premium feel without costing Delta too much to put together.
The giveaway!
As a reminder, these kits will be released July 1st. I have them right now. I imagine some of you want them right now and don’t want to wait for your next Delta One flight. Solution? Giveaway. I’m giving away both kits, so two winners! That’s right, win them before you can get them!
We’ll follow my typical giveaway format: leave a comment on this post telling us about your favorite amenity kit you’ve received (whether Delta or any other airline) and that’ll be your entry. Entries will be closed at 5:00pm CDT Friday June 26th. Now for some necessary legal jargon:
- Contest open to legal residents of the United States 18 years or older
- By entering the contest you give me permission to share your comment in a future post
- Winners will receive one Delta Tumi amenity kit delivered by the US Postal Service
- Contest void where prohibited by law
- Unless otherwise specified, one comment gives you one chance to win either amenity kit
- By entering contest you release Andy’s Travel Blog and its agents from any liability resulting from the contest
Looking forward to the comments, go!
While I’ve liked the American Amenity kits I’ve received, and the throwback theme has been fun, I’ve not thought the quality was very high. I certainly wouldn’t consider re-using the bags. That’s very cool that Delta is doing it in a way that you can.
While not strictly an amenity kit, TWA used to give an amenity kit and a stationary kit. I loved the stationary kit with the “mini” office supplies which included a “mini” stapler. Of course, I also love office supplies.
I still use my klm/Northwest neoprene case from 2002 one of the best cases I’ve ever gotten. Tumi Malaysian one is great too
My favorite is the Cathay pacific first class amenity kit. And only because it includes a set of the most comfy pajamas around.
Air China from Beijing to Chengdu.. Moist towelette, chopsticks, Chapstick, sleep blindfold..and a traditional Chinese fan.
That’s really cool that Tumi and Delta did this together… This fits both of their brands. I’ve enjoyed the AA portfolio design that carries an iPad…
I liked ur Periscope broadcast last night, keep ‘me coming!!
I wish I had received a kit of some kind but no luck yet. The only time I’ve flown first has been short domestic routes.
I wish I had recieved an amenity kit at some point. I have only flown in Business or First for short flight with no kits. Other than that, I have only gotten some earbuds. I would love to win! 🙂
of course flights are always delayed out of pasco wa and like usual I’m rushing to the gate in salt lake trying to catch my connection back to San Antonio I’m running to the gate and see my connecting plane being pushed back from the gate. Now I know I’m stuck overnight in slc. So delta gives me this bag of nothing that includes an assortment of mini toiletries and a oversize white v neck tee shirt to sleep in….. It was comfy! Oh and the free night stay in a hotel room which was so nasty that I slept in my clothes on top of the fitted sheet. Good times.
I have only flown a couple flights to get an amenity kit. One was usair and the other delta. However the usair bag was cloth and the delta a heavy grade nylon? so it will last much longer so I think that one is better.
I have one of the retro American Airlines amenity kits. It’s very nice but the shape doesn’t allow you to really pack it out. Id love one of these new delta kits! Thanks!
My very favorite amenity kit came from Alitalia in 1990. Italy was the host of the world cup that year, and the amenity kit matched it. Green leather with tan piping. Held a host of things, including the little lego looking soccer player that was the logo for that Cup. I used that bag for over a decade, it got lost in a move two years ago, and I still miss it. My dad still has his.
As a frequent traveller I am disappointed to say I have never recieved a kit of any kind. I have traveled united, AA, Qantas, Air New Zealand, Air China, Delta, spirit, and Tam, all of which provided nothing like this, so winning this would be a great pleasure! Thanks for the post!
I’ve only flown first class once and was not impressed with the kit.
I am new to international travel, and the only amenity kit I have received was on TAM airlines on a flight from Orlando to SĂŁo Paulo. It was a basic kit with socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, face wipes etc. I thought it was cool that we got a kit as I had never received one before
I have a few favorites, however I love the Zegna amenity kits and the PYE sleep suit from Cathay! The runner-ups would definitely be the early 2000 semi-hard shell triangle kits filled will l’occitane from delta and the early 2000 American Airlines J amenity kits filled with Origins. Do you remember the aer lingus amenity kits filled with Yonka? Those were equally nice. I guess I love anything filled with quality products.
The favorite amenity kit I received was with Northwest airlines back in the day. It had everything in it with quality products and nothing like the cheap knock off socks and tiny toothpaste they give you these days. I still have it and its got NW written in a leather.
My favorite is my black JAL Tumi. It’s really durable and I actually use it for traveling as a pseudo cosmetic case! You can tell it’s good quality versus some cheapy amenity kits I’ve gotten on other airlines.
I really like the hard shell one since it’s different although I think the design of the soft one is nicer.
My favorite is the Rimowa from LH F. Got 4!
My favorite is Cathay Pacific’s business kit – love those Jurlique products!
i have never received an amenities kit. While I love reading about travel experiences and wish I had more time to travel, most of my flights are short domestic trips, no frills. Keep writing, I’ll keep reading and dreaming.
My favorite kit is the one from Etihad. Nice roomy soft pouch that can be reused, which is the hallmark of a good amenity kit!
I got a Swiss amenity kit that was in a metal pencil holder sized/shaped tin. It was a huge hit with my aviation loving nephew.
My favorite so far in the Rimowa received from LH first class.
I live outside the US and if you change your mind and send it to me, I won’t mind 🙂 anyway my fav is the QF business class’ by Jack Spade.
Well, I certainly miss the good old days of flying with Pan Am.
Their kit, including the very plush socks reminds me of a better time when flyers were treated like valued guests.
My best yet: Tumi on Air Malaysia….
Right now it’s the EY First kit. Not only did it come with loungewear, the contents were beautifully presented in the Apartment’s vanity. I especially liked that it was stocked with Le Labo products. I’ll be flying SQ Suites in a couple weeks, so I expect that to give EY a run for its money.
Delta kits have always been my favorite. I think I’m really going to like the softside case and new pen!
My favorite kit I’ve received so far is the previous Delta Tumi kit (as it’s the only one I’ve ever received)!
I got a really awesome amenity kit on LAN flying from SCL to IPC
Never had one.
Hi I have unfortunately never received amenity kit as of yet. Thanks
Emirates’ J and F kits are wonderful, and have served many uses in our family. We have a stock of their shaving foam and deodorants from the kits so deep that I can’t remember the last time we bought a speed stick or a can of Gillette, and the bags themselves have been used for everything from cable caddies to repurposed toiletry bags.
And when you’re flying into countries where customs officers have stickier fingers, it’s always good to keep a couple spare in the carry-on. “Oh, these? You can have these, I don’t need them. Just some Bulgari lotion and a nice razor. Oh, I can go now? Cool!” (I’m looking at you, Tehran.)
I like the current Delta Kit but this upgrade will be a nice added benefit. When I flew Air Tahiti Nui in coach, it was nice that they gave a mini-kit to all coach passengers as well.
I have had a few different kits, but the original Delta Tumi was great. Works great as a power cord/accessory holder and matches my other Tumi gear!
My favorite amenity kit is United’s Connoisseur class amenity kit back in the 90s. It was the first amenity kit I ever received and I still use it! 🙂
The only amenity kits I have received are from CX and they are ok. Nothing special but useful items.
Best amenity kit was the one offered by Qantas from SFO to SYD several years ago–a little plastic bag with a drawstring. It was packed with lots of goodies, including a lanyard that I use to this day.
I’ve never gotten an overly special amenity kit and am anxious to win one.
My favorite was the United Airlines kit from LAX to Germany … but it was a long time ago …
I think that’s a nice touch that Delta gives out nice amenity kits on their flights. I think I would like the soft bag too. Thanks for the post.
Virgin Atlantic has my vote. Though frankly I don’t have a ton of experience with these kits.
My favorite amenity kits were the ones my dad would bring me from his international flights when I was a kid. Looking back now, they were nothing special (scratchy washcloth, Pepsodent toothpaste, eye mask, Aqua Velva aftershave) – but they were a treat when I was 8 and marveled that he got these goodies on an airplane!
I like the United Global First Kit – it’s got everything!
My fav was from Alaska Airlines!
I have only received the Tumi kit from Delta and truthfully, it was nice. It had what I needed to get me thru an overnite stay.
Delta business elite tumi kit. Have reused them for organizing thing I travel with. Also good for when I’m not up front, which is more often than not.
I really LOVE amenity kits.I too loved the Delta with l’occitane. My current personally acquired kit is from KLM – either Pink or Gray. The Pink is by Viktor& Rolf and it’s pretty enough to use! I am really wishing and wanting an EVA air. Hello Kitty amenity kit
Delta brown “canvas” zipper made for a great couple camera or cord bags. The socks and eye shades weren’t built to last the flight. Bags got better kits got worse.
But that Tumi sure looks great. Hope to get one in the mail or in the air soon.
Emirates First Class. So much stuff!
My favorite is the only one I’ve seen: the current Delta Tumi kit. I think it’s really nice and I do appreciate the Tumi branding. I’d love to win either of these new ones as they look really nice – thanks for the chance!
Lufthansa First Class – Rimowa. Besides the “cool” factor I find the case quite useful to store amenities and other gadgets.
As I’ve not had one before, I can honestly say that either of the kits above would instantly be my favorite!
I’m a fan of the American Airlines bag because it includes my favorite skincare line…Dermalogica.
Favorite amenity kit was my first — in the late 90s, an international op-up on UA and I had never seen one before!
I have the AA business class bag but really like their new heritage kits and want to try to get my hands on one of the mini Rimowa kits like Eva Air has.
