As most of you know, I’ve been in Asia for the past two weeks on business. I’ve visited Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore and it’s been a pretty good trip (although I’ve been missing some people back home).
On a completely separate note, as I’ve gotten more and more into photography I hear about certain educational events that bring together some of the best photographers and educators in the world. One of those annual events is Gulf Photo Plus in Dubai. It’s an event that takes place over a couple of weeks that brings together some great educators in a variety of workshops and training seminars. A few buddies of mine were teaching this year so I booked a quick roundtrip out to Dubai for a day to see them and hear them teach.
The last time I was in Dubai I didn’t know nearly as much about photography as I do now so I wanted to try for a much better picture of the Burj Khalifa, which meant forking over a chunk of money to the Address Hotel Dubai Mall (no, not the one that was on fire) for an amazing view.
Here’s that view, this week’s picture of the week!
For the photographers: This picture was all about the positioning of the tripod. The Burj Khalifa is so tall it’s hard to get it into one shot! I was as wide as I could get on my 16-35mm at 16mm and the exposure time was 1.3 seconds at ISO 100 and f8. Didn’t do anything too complex in post-processing, the morning glow kind of took care of everything for me.
Awesome photo, Andy! Great job getting it all in and capturing its enormity.
Thanks Charlie! Really tough get
crazy white balance lol. This is one of those times I would do wb bracketing and try to merge in Photoshop so half the pic doesn’t look green
Not a bad idea Rick. I’ll most likely go back and play with this one some more
Thats a great photo! Makes me more excited to pass by Dubai when i fly the really long way home from Hong Kong next week.
