Today American Airlines announced its plan for commercial flights to Cuba. As part of the agreement between the US and Cuban governments, there are certain restrictions around the frequency of flights to the Caribbean island. Many airlines have announced similar plans, although American figures to be a leader in the area, since they’ve long run charter flights to Cuba from their Miami hub.

American’s proposed operations are (no surprise) centered in its Miami hub, but with connections to many other American hubs as well, as detailed below:
To Havana
Miami – 10 daily frequencies
Charlotte – one daily frequency
Dallas/Fort Worth – one daily frequency
Los Angeles – one weekly frequency
Chicago – one weekly frequency
To other Cuban cities
Two daily frequencies to Santa Clara
Two daily frequencies to Holguin
Two daily frequencies to Varadero
One daily frequency to Camaguey
One daily frequency to Cienfuegos
Now, it remains to be seen which of these routes the US Department of Transportation will approve, but one thing is certain: travel to Cuba is coming soon!

Great that West-coasters no longer need to fly through MIA. Will be interesting to see how airlines adjust their capacity over time if the interest in Cuba starts to tail off, which some reports say has already happened.
