Just outside of Torres del Paine National Park is a lake called Lago Sarmiento. It is about as picturesque as you could ever imagine, truly the definition of the term bucolic.  I had seen the lake on my way into the park and it was lovely but it was a bit cloudy that day so the pictures didn’t turn out very well.

As I began the journey home from Patagonia it meant leaving Torres del Paine while it was still dark. The long and winding (and pothole-filled) dirt roads of Torres del Paine mercifully ceded to paved roads as I went back to my first hint of civilization.  But I had to stop one more time at Lago Sarmiento.  As I was nearing the lookout, the sky started to show signs of sunrise, the light casting clouds into pink wisps of awesomeness.  It was time for a proper picture!  It ended up being one of my favorite pictures of the trip so I thought that deserved the title of Picture of the Week!

For the photographers: (note: clicking on the links below will take you to an affiliate partner who will pay me a small commission should you make a purchase, thanks for your support!) this one is almost completely out of camera!  The light was just so perfect that it didn’t need much.  I had my Sony a7rII with the 24-70 G Master lens at 24mm.  I was in aperture priority and it ended up being an exposure time of about 20 seconds.  Some small adjustments to the shadows, a bit of contrast, maybe a bit of sharpening, and this one was ready to go!
