I’m wrapping up a rainy relaxing trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, today. It’s been raining pretty much from the first moment I got here so yesterday I decided to drive over to Chichen Itza to see the Castillo pyramid.
Chichen Itza was about a 2 hour drive from Mayakoba (where I’m staying) along the new toll road connecting the Yucatan state to Quintana Roo. The toll road was super easy and worth the $35USD or so it cost to drive the road (bring pesos when you’re doing this drive, they do not take credit cards nor dollars).
I’ll be doing a write-up about Chichen Itza and don’t want to spoil all of it so I’ll save the rest of the juicy details for that post but I definitely wanted to whet your whistle with an incredible dramatic picture from the site! Not only did the clouds add some incredible drama but I also managed to grab a picture without anyone else in it! I’m off to the airport to grab an earlier flight home but in the meantime enjoy this week’s Picture of the Week: Chichen Itza Storm!
Mexico is absolutely on my list! I love those ancient historic places-
Lovely post, really enjoyed reading this! The history behind chichen itza is so fascinating. Thanks for sharing this post
