Check out previous pictures of the week in the Gallery!
I’ve just returned from an unforgettable 8-day trip to Iceland! I fully intended on posting throughout the trip but was simply too busy driving around the island and being natured right in the face. What an unbelievable country!
You’re going to see plenty of Iceland coverage in the coming days so I thought I’d start it off with a unique perspective of one of Iceland’s icons: Kirkjufell mountain. Standing tall on the northern side of the Snaefellsness peninsula, Kirkjufell (Church Mountain, literally), is oft-photographed and is fairly crowded as a result. I went to the typical spot around Kirkjufellsfoss and took the typical picture and was making my way to my hotel for the evening when I saw the sun setting just behind the mountain. Thankfully I found a place to legally pull off the road, grabbed my camera, and ended up capturing one of my favorite pictures ever!
This is just a taste of all the Iceland content to come, please enjoy this week’s picture of the week in the meantime!
For the photographers: sometimes you’re just in the right place at the right time, I’d love to say I scouted this location out and used PhotoPills to see that the sun would be setting there, but I literally looked out my car window, made a girly squealy excited noise, and pulled off to take the picture. I knew I wanted some sun stars so I had my a7rIII and 24-70 GM lens at f16. Didn’t need to do much in post, this one was golden almost straight out of camera! As always, please let me know if you have any questions in the comments below!
I’m so envious! Just returned from Iceland and didn’t have good enough weather 98% of the time to get great pics even though seeing the actual sites was thrilling.
We live in Grapevine, TX and love seeing the local pics you post periodically. Great job!
Thanks Jani! Hopefully you can go back soon for some more pics!
