It’s finally time, and I know you’ve all been waiting for it: my Top 10 Pictures of 2018!

2018 has been a wonderful year full of incredible experiences for me and I hope it has been for you as well.  These 10 pictures represent what I’ve experienced this year as well as how much I’ve improved as a photographer over the years (I’ve only been taking pictures for about 4.5 years now).

So, without further ado, let’s take a look back at a wonderful year!

10. Tunnelbana, Stockholm, Sweden

The Stockholm metro system (called the Tunnelbana) is decorated by local artists, who are given a canvas of hewn rock to decorate and bring some liveliness to.  The result are some of the most amazing public spaces I’ve seen.  If you want to see more, be sure to check out this post where I show off even more incredible Tunnelbana stations!

9. Dallas Eclipsed

This image was the result of a hastily-planned helicopter ride with my buddies at Epic Helicopters when I was searching for the perfect spot to capture the supermoon lunar eclipse in January.  A bunch of photography buddies were going to be strewn across Dallas but I was fairly certain none would be in the air, so up we went!

8. Vestrahorn Mountain, Iceland

There were plenty of amazing sights to behold in Iceland, but the reflections around the Vestrahorn mountain were unique even for Iceland.  I loved capturing the entire face of the mountain in one shot with just enough sand in the foreground so the viewer knows the reflection wasn’t just added later in Photoshop.

7. Alaskan Highway

I went to Alaska for the first time this April.  While the timing wasn’t the best, since April is when the ice starts breaking up before Spring has really bloomed, it was still incredible!  I flew my drone up and captured this unique image, combining the beauty of the evergreen forest on the left, modern transportation in the middle, and the ice breaking up on the right.

6. Plitvice Waterfalls, Croatia

While I was a bit daft and left the trail before tumbling down a cliff (as I mention in this video), Plitvice Lakes National Park was still beautiful.  I can’t wait to go back during autumn someday!

5. Olympic Sunset, Washington

I visited Olympic National Park, in Washington (state), for the first time this July.  I got lucky with availability at the Lake Crescent Lodge and made my way there from Seattle, arriving just in time to capture this epic sunset, framed by mountains on one side and old-growth forest on the other.

4. Lofoten Soccer Pitch, Norway

This is the most unique soccer pitch in the world.  Situated on a peninsula barely wide enough to contain it in the fishing village of Henningsvaer, Norway, in the Lofoten Islands, I first saw it on Reddit and just had to go visit for myself.  Nearly lost my drone for this one but thankfully it came back after I lost the signal!

3. Church Sunset, Iceland

My Iceland trip got off to a bit of a rough start with the weather (which is legendarily unpredictable and ever-changing).  From extreme winds to a longer drive than I thought to a bit of a bummer of a shoot out at Kirkjufellsfoss, I was driving to my hotel nearby when I noticed the sun breaking through the clouds just in time to set behind Iceland’s most photographed mountain, Kirkjufell (Church Mountain).  It put a smile on my face and motivated me for the rest of the trip!

2. Sony Kando Trip, California

I was lucky enough to go to the Sony Kando Trip in May out in Asilomar, California (in the Monterey area).  From special photo excursions with award-winning Sony Artisans to photo sets on the conference ground, I grew as a photographer and made a bunch of new photography friends.  I can’t wait for next year’s trip in Oregon!

1. Norwegian Aurora, Norway

This is one of my favorite images of all time.  I made the sudden decision to go to Norway to see the Northern Lights and stupidly only gave myself two nights there.  I somehow got incredibly lucky and was treated to this incredible spectacle on the second night.  I will never forget the feeling of being out there with no one around, just me and the aurora.
