Picture of the Week – Southwest Airlines…from a helicopter!

I had the joy of taking another tour with my buddies at Epic Helicopters on Friday. The heli rides are not cheap but I love taking photos from such a unique perspective. As we flew over Love Field (home of Southwest Airlines), the pilot let me know there was a Southwest Airlines flight landing underneath us. I know that sounds dangerous but we were at plenty of altitude and the tower told us to fly over the airport. As the flight landed we were in the perfect position for some great photos!

Picture of the Week: A Tribute to Dallas

Picture of the Week: A Tribute to Dallas

This week was a tough week for the city of Dallas. During an important conversation on race relations in America, a lone gunman took it upon himself to cause terror and destruction against a police department that has actually been lauded for reaching out to minority communities. Like I mentioned in my video, it was just a tough time (and still is). But Dallas is a city of strong and loving people and I was happy to see that Dallas responded in a strong and loving way.

Anyway, I don’t have a new picture to share this week (I mean I do, but I’ll get back to our regularly-scheduled programming next week), I just wanted to share some of my favorites of Dallas that I’ve taken over the years, to show you the city I love and the city I call home.

On the Dallas shooting and everything else…

On the Dallas shooting and everything else…

Dallas was in the news last night for the most unfortunate reason: gunmen opened fire on Dallas police officers who were providing security for a protest against police violence.

I have no doubt you have already heard about the event, and also the events that initially prompted the protests, so I won’t recount any of the events, plenty of people who have done it better than I possibly could.

I set up my camera and a light this morning and just starting talking into the camera. I don’t know if it was more for me than for anyone else, but I wanted to share it with you either way.

Picture of the Week: The Most Epic Fireworks Photo EVER

Picture of the Week: The Most Epic Fireworks Photo EVER

Greetings! Sorry for the delay for the PotW this week. The United States and Americans worldwide celebrated the Independence Day holiday this weekend. In that spirit I took a couple of days off of work and enjoyed a four-day weekend! Many of you have probably figured out that I have been severely stressed out recently and it finally caught up with me last week. This weekend was just what the doctor ordered: relaxing with good friends at pool parties and quite a few adult beverages!

I’m back at work and feel relaxed and ready to take on the world. I may actually book a trip to Europe to celebrate! Anyway, America loves fireworks around New Year’s Eve and the 4th of July. One of the biggest fireworks displays in the country is in Addison, Texas, a suburb very close to Dallas. They call it Kaboom Town, and for good reason. Click through to see the amazing shot!

Embrace the Turbulence: A Lavatory Explosive

Embrace the Turbulence: A Lavatory Explosive

A few days ago someone asked me why I blog. My response was “I enjoy sharing stories of life on the road with my readers” and I think that’s accurate. Having said that, I think the time has come to invite new voices to share their stories, since there are so many interesting people with whom I cross paths in the skies!

I’d like to introduce you to my good friend The Travel Director (she’s headquartered at www.thetraveldirector.com, on Facebook at The Travel Director, and on Instagram at @thetraveldirector). What is The Travel Director, you ask? Straight from her mouth:

The Travel Director is an extension of the event planning industry and is hired on a contractual basis by third-party event planning companies as an extension of their team. Fueled by wanderlust, this “warrior of the sky” travels the globe executing high-end events at a first class level.

As we’ve traded stories over the past month or so, The Travel Director has graciously agreed to share some of her favorites with Andy’s Travel Blog. So, without further ado, please welcome The Travel Director!
