If you’re a member of the American Airlines AAdvantage program, earning elite-qualifying miles and points flying on British Airways will change effective February 1, 2016.

Currently, any BA marketed and operated flight earns 100% base eqm (see here for my explanation of earning AAdvantage status).

This is the new chart, effective February 1, 2016, from aa.com:

New AAdvantage earning chart with BA, effective February 1, 2016

As you can see, flying discount economy will earn you less and deep discount economy will earn you far less than the current chart.

No word on what this could mean for any changes in the AAdvantage program overall, but you can’t help but wonder if something similar could be coming from American, since AA and BA are part of a joint transatlantic venture.
