Ever bored near DFW Airport? Head over to Founder’s Plaza for a great vantage point to watch planes take off and land from the western runways. Founder’s Plaza is open from 7am-7pm (they’ve been known to keep it open later for special flights like the American 787’s first landing at DFW) pretty much every day. Their website isn’t the best, but there’s an ATC speaker so you can hear the flights being cleared for takeoff. The more interesting times are between 11am-2pm, that’s when you’ll see a lot of the superheavies take off for destinations in Asia and the Middle East, then from 3pm-6pm you’ll see many of the Europe-bound flights taking off. If you’d like to visit, there’s a great map on how to get there at this link.
Anyway, I ventured out today and got some great snaps of some superheavies taking off for Asia and the Middle East. I’ll use these images in future posts when these airlines and/or plane types come up. Please enjoy them and please contact me before using them on a commercial website (personal use, i.e. Facebook and other social media, by individuals is always ok and I’d appreciate a photo credit).
For the photographers: I shot these with my Sony a7rII and the 70-200mm f4 telephoto lens at 200mm. I shot wide open at f4, ISO 100, and exposure times ranged from 1/640 to 1/2500 of a second. Images were processed like normal in Lightroom and Photoshop.
