Before getting too far into the picture of the week, I just wanted to brag a bit about spelling Norwegian correctly on my first attempt!  I always seem to try and spell it Norweigan, but joke was on spellcheck this time!

Anyhoo, I’m back from Norway and have seriously billions of posts to write from as far back as November at the same time as getting all of the NorweiganDANGIT Norwegian pictures ready.  In the meantime though I thought I’d get one of the epic sunrise pictures ready and show it to you!

This time of year in Norway the sun stays above the horizon for maybe an hour and a half, but the sunrise lasts for hours as does the sunset.  I was driving over to Hamnoy to take last week’s picture of the week and encountered this beautiful sunrise just a bit north of the town of Leknes.  The sunrise was so beautiful I figured it deserved to be this week’s picture of the week!

For the photographers: I took this with my Sony a7rIII and the Sony 24-70 G Master lens.  Really the hardest part was figuring out what to do with the foreground since the ice didn’t really make for that exciting of a contrasting foreground element but I decided to include it anyway since the reflection on the ice made a nice natural gradient.

Focal Length: 29mm
Aperture: f8
ISO: 100
Exposure: 15 seconds

Post processing was done entirely in Lightroom and honestly it didn’t take much.  I love using warmer color temperatures for sunrises like this and brought the shadows up quite a bit (since you can raise the shadows all you would like with Sony’s incredible sensor in the a7rIII).  I went a little overboard with clarity, vibrance, and contrast, simply because I hadn’t done that in a while, so while I ended up with more of a Serge Ramelli shot I feel like the scene called for it.
