American Airlines is leading the competition with its airport lounge strategy.  I’ve personally reviewed the new Flagship Lounges in DFW, LAX, ORD, and JFK, and American has been opening both new and renovated Admirals Club lounges across their entire network at an aggressive pace.  That torrid pace continues with a new Admirals Club opening today: in terminal E at American’s home airport, DFW.

Terminal E Admirals Club

I’ve often thought of Terminal E at DFW as the Other Airports terminal (since the others are so dominated by American), but American made significant moves to grow its presence there, renovating the satellite terminal there and making it a mini-base for regional flights along with a small number of mainline gates.

With the new concentration of gates at DFW, American has been able to push the daily departure number past 900 American flights leaving from DFW each day.  With the large amount of new gates came a need for a new Admirals Club.  That Club opened today.

The Club follows the same modern design theme as the rest of the Admirals Club network, with a few local touches.  Of specific note is the unique chain piece below, created of individual strands of chains that together show a map of DFW Airport.  It was in the previous iteration of this space and it’s a nice touch that American decided to keep it.

As mentioned above, the seating options should be familiar to any who have visited renovated lounges recently, with plenty of power outlets (both plugs and wireless pads, the little circles you see on some of the tables between the seats below.

DFW Lounge Renovation nearly complete

This makes the Admirals Club in Terminal C the last existing legacy lounge at DFW.  Terminal C is likely facing a massive renovation project of its own in the coming years, so I’d imagine American will plan the Admirals Club renovation in parallel.  Of course, the nascent announcement of Terminal F development at DFW will no doubt mean another Admirals Club, since American will get many of the new gates there.

Overall, American is flexing its vast lounge network and setting the bar amidst stiff competition not only in numbers of lounges but the unique services offered at each.  I’m not sure when I’ll be through Terminal E but I’ll happily drop by the new club (and also the Whataburger restaurant in Terminal E itself) when I do!
