Picture of the Week is back! Yesterday I did a day trip from Dallas to the top of Angel’s Landing at Zion National Park. For most people that’s not exactly a day trip but I’m an idiot and thought I could do it! Thankfully I made it up and back safely and made my redeye flight back to Dallas with literally minutes to spare.
This picture will look similar to one that I shared from last year’s hike, but I’m still proud of it! Last year I was going probably out of my station a bit in attempting the hike, I was out of shape and had a few beers at a buddy’s wedding in Vegas the night before. This year the hike was still difficult but I made it up the trail in much better condition than last time.

It’s another edition of What’s the Points! Today we’ll cover quite a bit from some new folks who have yet to be mentioned in previous episodes.
As always, please please let me know what you think in the comments! I’m looking forward to seeing how this grows but want to make sure I’m covering what you’d like to see.

Ok ok, I’m not going to waste any more of your time decrying American’s AAdvantage changes: they’re here and that’s too bad. That said, many of us will still fly with American, so it doesn’t hurt to stay informed about what’s going on.
I have to give American credit where it’s due. In addition to rolling out the new redeemable miles scheme American also added functionality to their website to make everything as upfront as possible during the purchase process. Let’s look at a hypothetical trip from DFW-PDX that I was looking at. On the “Review & Pay” section of the website, I saw the below, clearly listing the various kinds of elite-qualifying miles, segments, and (coming in 2017) dollars I’d earn for this trip.

I’m back with episode 002 of What’s the Points! Today we cover the changes that took place to American’s AAdvantage program yesterday, my favorite deal-finding site, and a curious story about glass jetways. Click through for the video!

Well today is the day. The amount of redeemable miles you earn on a flight no longer has any correlation to the distance of the flight or the class in which you fly. It’s now all about the money. I’ve made my thoughts on the matter pretty clear in a previous post and won’t rehash the gory details here. But let’s talk about a change American needs to make.
